River Dove
The
society`s stretch of the river Dove at Doveridge can provide some good
quality fishing particularly during the winter months of the year. The
one drawback with this water is the walk of around two fields length
to get to the waters edge. The best advice is to travel lightly and carry
only the minimum of tackle as the walk can be difficult. Despite this
the Dove can provide some remarkable sport especially in winter when
chub and barbel amass in huge shoals, at this time of the year catches
of fifty pounds plus are quite often reported with ledgered worm or
maggot being the most popular baits. During the late spring and summer
the Dove can prove to be a delightful little river for those anglers
using either a dry fly or very light float tackle and although the society
does not regularly stock this water various other clubs both up and
downstream stock their stretches with brown trout. As of this year there
are believed to be plans afoot by the environment agency to stock this
river and other tributaries of the Trent with salmon.
