Fenton & District Angling Society was formed in 1906 to offer affordable quality sport to anglers in the Stoke on Trent area

Formed in 1906 at a time when angling was seen as a sport of the working classes Fenton & District Angling Association was, from its inception a club with the provision of affordable and accessible angling as its main objective. Now almost one hundred years later it still endeavours to provide anglers with some of the most reasonably priced sport in the country. In the beginning poor quality public transport was the biggest limiting factor in securing suitable waters for its members. Although crossed by the Trent and Mersey canal from north to south the City of Stoke on Trent was Bereft of clean waters suitable for the sport, mainly due to the scars that rapid industrialisation had left on the city landscape. 1906 remember was barely 15 years after the opening of Queens Park Longton (1888) that was intended to be the lungs of the industrial wasteland housing 25000 people and provide them with suitable recreation. At the same time the well meaning local dignitaries decided that angling was a sport to be discouraged and allowed fishing on payment of a fee of £1per day - then around a weeks wages! Contrast this then with the present situation: Angling on 7 miles of canal, three stretches of local rivers and several local still waters including the clubs "jewel in the crown " at Dilhorne pools, an angling complex owned run and managed exclusively by the association. The icing on the cake is that members can also now fish that park lake at longton so long ago put out of reach, and all of this for an annual fee of £25.

The Society recognizes the services rendered by the Tackle Dealers listed below in issuing its Membership Cards and expresses appreciation for their support.
